Learn The Fly Fishing Basics and How to Fly Fish!

Fly Casting Lesson – Basic Fly Cast

While we’re all stuck at home these days, and even in times when we aren’t, there are a few ways to practice your fly fishing without traveling to a destination. Learning and improving your basic fly cast is one of those ways.

This is fly casting at its most basic level and when learning how to fly fish, learning how to cast is super important. Learning good habits while doing so is incredibly important as well. There are three keys to making good casts, beginning with a smooth acceleration, stopping the rod at the right time, and keeping the rod tip tracking in a straight line as you move it. I came across this video presented by ORVIS casting instructor Pete Kutzer and he explains and demonstrates the basic ideas of making a fly cast in a clear and understandable way to help you improve. Check it out below.

Being able to practice fly casting and learn the basic fly cast is one of those things that is invaluable to improving your fly fishing game. The more you practice and get comfortable with fly casting, the more enjoyable your time out on the water will be.
